Chiriquí Highlands Expeditions
An operator running scheduled day departures out of Boquete since 2013: the Quetzal Trail traverse, the Barú summit night walk, and the hanging bridges circuit at Bajo Mono. Everything departs on a published date whether two people booked or twelve, which is unusual here and the reason people plan around them. Six guides on staff, all ATP-licensed, all carrying radios because there is no phone signal above Alto Chiquero.

Overview
Scheduled day departures out of Boquete, published on a calendar and run whether two people booked or twelve. That last part is the whole business model: it means a solo traveller can plan a Tuesday around the Quetzal Trail traverse instead of hoping a group forms. Three routes run on rotation — the traverse from Alto Chiquero to Respingo, the overnight walk up Barú timed to be on the summit at first light, and the Bajo Mono hanging bridges circuit for anyone who wants the forest without the eight hours. Six guides on staff, all ATP-licensed and all carrying radios, because there is no phone signal above Alto Chiquero and pretending otherwise is how people get hurt.

Tour options

Three hours on the hanging bridges circuit in the Bajo Mono canopy. The forest without the eight hours, and the one that works for families.

The full Alto Chiquero to Respingo traverse with transport at both ends, so the eight hours are all walking and none of it is a shuttle you arranged yourself.

Leaves at 11:00 PM to be on the summit for first light. Twelve hours up and back, two oceans from the top on a clear morning, and genuinely cold at 3475 metres.

Paced for birding
What stood out
Highlands traverse paced for birding, not covering kilometres. Quetzal morning was the point.
