Overview
Eight cabins on stilts, strung along the south shore of Isla Carenero five minutes by water taxi from Bocas town. Each one has its own ladder straight down into the water and a hammock deck that catches the afternoon breeze off the channel. The reef under the cabins is shallow enough to read from the deck on a calm morning; snorkel gear and a two-person kayak come with every booking. The whole property runs on solar with rainwater catchment, which means hot water is genuinely solar-heated and best used in the afternoon. Meals are served family-style at one long table, and the boat can drop you at Red Frog or Cayo Zapatilla and collect you later the same day.

Cabin at the mangrove end of the boardwalk. Shallower water and the best of the morning birds.

End cabin over the deepest part of the reef shelf. The ladder drops into four metres of water.

Furthest cabin from the main house and the one with no neighbour on either side.

The largest cabin, with a loft reached by a ship ladder and a wraparound hammock deck.

Ladder straight into the reef
What stood out
The kids went straight down the ladder into the reef. Solar water actually hot in the afternoon. Family-style dinner was the highlight.

Response from the host
The ladder is always the first thing the children find. See you next season.

Arrecife at mid-tide
What stood out
Arrecife cabin — deep end of the boardwalk, reef under the ladder at mid-tide.
